چکیده

The recent advancements in semiotics theorising have moved Barthes` contributions to the field a step further. Despite this fact, Algerian scholars` contributions are based on traditional theoretical foundations, overlooking the insights new theories might offer. to provide insights regarding if Algerian works, recently published in Algerian journals incorporate these new advancements. This study uses the critical review survey method and critically reviews the body of literature related to the evolution of the concepts introduced by the traditional Barthisian model of semiotics and provide examples of Algerian works, recently published in Algerian journals. In so doing, we focus on the works that addressed Barthe`s notions of denotation, connotation and Myth. The review has shown a huge gap between what semioticians are doing around the world and what Algerian scholars are doing due to the fact that the latter do not benefit from recent theorising. Thus, we conclude that perspectives in approaching new works in semiotics should be entrenched to include modern advancement in the theorising of the field.
